How We Repair Foundation Cracks

The shape of a crack says a lot. A thin vertical line in a poured wall is often just shrinkage. A crack that's wider at the top, a stair-step through block, or a horizontal crack along the middle of a wall usually means something is pushing or settling. Both kinds show up in Knoxville basements, poured and block alike.
We measure the width, look at the pattern, and check the floors, doors and outside walls for matching signs. If the crack is stable, foundation crack repair is a small, quick job. If it isn't, sealing alone won't last, and we'll tell you what's moving.
When a crack turns out to be part of bigger movement, it's handled as full foundation repair, with the crack sealed once the wall is stable.
What Different Cracks Usually Mean
Hairline vertical cracks
Common in poured walls as concrete shrinks. Usually cosmetic unless they leak or widen.
Stair-step cracks in block
Follow the mortar joints and often mean settling at one corner or pressure from outside.
Horizontal cracks
Usually soil pressure pushing the wall in. These need structural attention, not just sealing.
Cracks wider at one end
A sign that one part of the foundation is moving more than another, typically settlement.
Basement Crack Repair in Knoxville
01
Polyurethane injection
Expands to fill the crack and stops water. A good choice for leaking cracks in poured walls.
02
Epoxy injection
Bonds the concrete back together. Used where strength matters and the crack is dry and stable.
03
Structural fix first
If the wall is bowing or settling, anchors, straps or piers come first and the crack is sealed after.

Call (865) 417-3894Is My Crack Serious?
Are all foundation cracks a problem?
No. Thin vertical cracks in poured concrete are common as it cures and shrinks. Cracks that are wider at one end, stair-step through block, run horizontally, or keep growing are the ones to have looked at.
Will injection stop a crack from leaking?
Yes, when the wall is stable. Polyurethane or epoxy fills the crack through the full thickness of the wall. If the wall is still moving, the crack will reopen, so we check that first.
Can you repair cracks in block walls the same way?
Not usually. Block walls crack along the mortar joints and are hollow, so injection doesn't work the same. Those cracks often point to wall pressure that needs anchors or straps.
How long does crack repair take?
Most single cracks are injected in a few hours, and the area is usable the same day.
Should I just fill it with caulk?
Surface patching can hide a crack without stopping water or movement, and it makes it harder to tell later whether the crack is growing. It's better to have it checked first; we look at cracks all over Knoxville.
